Test EZProxy Access to Statista

This tutorial will guide you through testing access to Statista.com using the EZProxy test instance.

Prerequisites

  • Access to the Statista EZProxy test instance
  • Test user credentials

Step 1: Navigate to the Login URL

Open your browser and navigate to:

https://login.statista.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://www.statista.com

This URL tells EZProxy to:

  1. Require authentication via the login page
  2. Redirect to https://www.statista.com after successful login

Step 2: Enter Test Credentials

On the login page, enter the test user credentials:

  • Username: cpe
  • Password: Eir8aim0

Click the login button.

Step 3: Verify Access

After successful authentication, you should:

  1. Be redirected to Statista.com
  2. Notice the URL has been rewritten to include the EZProxy domain (e.g., www-statista-com.statista.idm.oclc.org)
  3. Be logged in as the user CPEEZProxyTest

Step 4: Verify Your Session

To confirm you're logged in correctly:

  1. Look for the username displayed on the Statista interface
  2. You should see CPEEZProxyTest as the logged-in user
  3. Try accessing premium content to verify that IP-based access is working

Understanding What Happened

During this test, the following occurred:

  1. Authentication Request: Your browser sent a request to EZProxy asking for access to Statista
  2. Identity Verification: EZProxy prompted you for credentials since you weren't authenticated
  3. Credential Validation: EZProxy validated your credentials against the patron database
  4. IP-Based Access: EZProxy forwarded your request to Statista from its registered IP address (132.174.235.9)
  5. IP Verification: Statista recognized the EZProxy IP as authorized and granted access
  6. URL Rewriting: EZProxy rewrote the URLs to maintain the session and route future requests through the proxy

Troubleshooting

Login Fails

If authentication fails:

  • Verify you're using the correct credentials (cpe / Eir8aim0)
  • Check that the test user exists in the patron database
  • See Administer EZProxy Test Instance for user management

Can't Access Premium Content

If you can log in but can't access premium content:

  • Verify the EZProxy IP (132.174.235.9) is registered in CRM
  • Check that IP Access is enabled for the test instance
  • Review the Onboarding Guide for configuration requirements

URLs Look Strange

The URL rewriting (e.g., www-statista-com.statista.idm.oclc.org) is expected behavior. This allows EZProxy to:

  • Maintain the authenticated session
  • Route all requests through the proxy
  • Prevent users from having to re-authenticate frequently
